Fire hose reels
What makes a fire hose different?
A fire hose is a high pressure hose that is permanently connected to the water supply. A nozzle attached to the end of the hose enables the operator to control the direction and flow of water to the fire. Any system pressure loss will activate a pump ensuring adequate water flow and pressure to provide a water jet of typically a minimum of 10 meter from the nozzle.
Where to place a fire hose reel
Fire hose reels are best located at strategic places in buildings to provide a reasonably accessible and controlled supply of water for fire extinguishing.
When to use a fire hose
A fire hose is designed to be used as a quick and accessible response method for fighting fires in the early stages. Suitable for Class A fires only ie. Burning paper, textiles, wood, most plastics and rubber.
Our Fire Safety Training Courses give Fire Wardens and others hands-on experience with fire hoses, fire extinguishers, fire blankets and other fire safety equipment.
Fire hose features
Fire hoses are available in lengths from between 18 and 36 meters long and diameters of 13mm, 19mm and 25mm
On-going maintenance
Your fire hose reel should be tested and maintained in accordance with NZS 4503:2005. There are a number of important checks that should be routinely carried out including an annual check of the flow rate at each hose reel.
